Here is a cereal box template which you can use with Microsoft Word to put in your text, drawings and graphics.
Here is the Success Criteria we made together:

FRONT has:
___ a MASCOT or CARTOON
___ original cereal name
___ original company name
___ slogas (catchy phrase)
SIDE has:
___ ingredients
___ nutrition Facts
___ barcode
BACK has:
___ games or activity or information about a famous person
___ prizes or toy
___ website
NEATNESS
___ has to have neat writing
___ colouring is solid, no scribbling, is inside the lines
___ use at least one colour to show feelings
(red: strong, yellow:happy, blue: relaxed, orange: hungry)

Media Are Constructions
The Grade 2s also viewed how Media can be made to what the creator wants it to show. We saw this video:
We then talked about the parts of a cereal box and how it is made for a target audience. We tried designing our own box with this website:

Public Service Announcement Posters
We just finished our unit on Public Service Announcements!
The grade 2s had a wonderful time making their posters with Pic Collage, a FREE iPad app.
Before they got to take their pictures and put them on the iPads, they had to fill out this template first:

Before they got to take their pictures and put them on the iPads, they had to fill out this template first:
It was the first time the Grade 2s used cloud storage. For this one, we used copy.com.
(I use it because it starts with 15GB free! Click the copy.com link for your first 15 gb. You'll receive an extra 5 and I will as well! :)
After writing the plans, the Grade 2s went to their iPads and:
1.) took pictures for their posters
2.) uploaded their images to Pic Collage
3.) matched their slogans with their posters.
The pictures were eventually used for our school's Kindness and Caring Assembly. If you want to know more about the detailed steps we went through, click here.
